DEPARTMENT OF HINDI

Objectives:

  • Hindi is our National language spoken in every walk of life. The students today need high proficiency in communicative skills, command in speaking, learning and writing.
  • To provide a forum for interaction.
  • To promote innovative practices and insights into learning the language.
  • To develop interest among students towards Hindi Literature.
  • To improve speaking and writing skills and prepare students for oratory and elocution.

Activities:

  • To conduct workshops, seminars, lectures, debate competitions, elocutions, essay competitions, kavya-paath and discussions within the department and with other colleges.
  • To organize inter-collegiate Hindi debate competitions. Carry out group discussions among students of B.A Part I, II & III in the class rooms
  • To arrange lectures of eminent personalities in the Institute.
  

Brief History :

This subject was introduced in the Institute in the year 1940.However despite an unimpressive start; this Department has acquired impressive achievements that have brought this language to its important status today.

Earlier, exams were conducted by Bhartiya Hindi Sammelan
which gave a very good base to students in passing the Visharad Exam with flying colours.
This practice was later continued by the Department of Hindi.
Hindi Sahitya Samiti was inaugurated at the hands of Dr.Harbhajan Singh Hanspal on 18th January 1984. On 19th November, 1984 Hindi Sahitya Mandal was inaugurated by Hindi scholar Shri R. Yatri.
Under the leadership of Dr. Sarju Prasad Mishra from 1992-1996,
Hindi language got greater impetus in and around Nagpur.
His 15 books in Hindi sahitya, 3 Nataka and 1 Upanayas are already published.
He also guided several students for M. Phil and Ph.D in Hindi.
15th students have been already awarded PhD degree under his guidance.
On 11th Dec. 1996, Dr. Sarju Prasad Mishra joined as Professor and Head of the Department in Post Graduate Teaching Department of Hindi, Nagpur University Nagpur.
Since, 16th August 1997, Dr. Renu Bali took charge as the Head of the Department. Hindi may either be offered as a compulsory language in the Compulsory Group or as Literature from the Optional subjects included in the curriculum of the Institute. From 1997 onwards, the strenghth of students has steadily increased,therefore, two sections in B.A. I for Compulsory Hindi classes were provided for the convenience of the students.

Dr. Renu Bali has joined the Teach India programme in collaboration with The Times of India (TOI), Nagpur and has adopted - "Vasantrao Naik Slum", Near Bole Petrol Pump, Nagpur. She regularly visits the Slums and teaches the students as part of Social and Extension work on a Charitable basis .
