DEPARTMENT OF URDU

Objectives:

  • To promote studies and research in Urdu.
  • To inculcate awareness towards Urdu language and literature.
  • To cultivate a Literary and Cultural sense among students.

Activities:

  • Organized lectures and seminar of prominent Urdu writers and critics.
  • Arranged 'Mushayara's'
  • Arranged Justice Arif-Ur-Rehman Khan Memorial Inter Collegiate Urdu Debate competition.
  • Organized Musical programs like "Gazals".
  • Parents Teachers Meeting are arranged to solve the problems of the students and take the suggestion of the parents regarding the studies of their children and take there views regarding institutions.
    

Brief History :

Nagpur, the second capital of Maharashtra is the very centre of India. This city of oranges has geographical, political Social educational and cultural importance. It was the Headquarter of the ruler Bakht Buland Shah in 1702. Several prominent Muslims were included in his administration. Later, when the Bhosla rulers came to power, many Muslim migrated to Nagpur and were given a respectable status in the military and administrative set-up. These Muslim families migrated to Nagpur from Mysore, Hyderabad and especially from Uttar Pradesh. Several schools of Arabic, Urdu and Farsi were opened to facilitate education. Thus, the contribution of Urdu enriched the Nagpur region and produced several eminent literary scholars. In due course, many High Schools and Colleges, with Urdu as a subject, were established. Among them was Morris College, which is now known as Vasantrao Naik Govt. Institute of Arts & Social Science. Urdu Language and Literature is also taught along with English, Hindi and Marathi.
